About the Beagle
Beagles are a medium sized hound, around 33 to 40cm tall and 9 to 14kg, with a short, dense coat most often in tricolour or lemon and white. The long soft ears, the white tipped tail and the pleading eyes are hard to say no to, which is exactly the problem. They were bred to hunt hares in a pack and the instincts remain: they follow their nose, they bay rather than bark, and they will open a bin, a cupboard or a lunchbox without remorse. Owners joke that a Beagle is never full and never off duty. They are gentle, good with children and happiest with company. Called 'Beags' or 'the hound', they are loving dogs with a mischievous streak that never quite grows out.
