About the Border Terrier
Border Terriers are a working terrier from the English and Scottish borders, around 28 to 40cm tall and 5 to 7kg, with a harsh, dense wiry coat in red, grizzle and tan, blue and tan or wheaten. The otter shaped head and the whiskery face are the giveaway. The coat needs hand stripping a couple of times a year and sheds lightly in between. They are less yappy than many terriers and generally get on with other dogs, but the hunting instinct is strong and a Border off lead near rabbits is a Border that has temporarily stopped listening. Owners call them 'Borders' and joke that the dog has selective hearing and a bottomless stomach. Steady, affectionate, game for anything.
