About the Dobermann
The Dobermann is a large, muscular dog with a short, sleek coat, usually black with rust markings, though brown, blue and fawn also occur. They were developed in Germany as a personal protection dog and still have the alertness, intelligence and speed that job required. Properly raised they are loyal, obedient and surprisingly sensitive, and many owners are caught out by how affectionate and clingy they are at home. They are sometimes called Velcro dogs for good reason. In Britain the spelling is Dobermann, and owners shorten it to Dobie or Dobe. The common joke is that your fearsome guard dog is afraid of the hoover and needs a blanket to sleep. They are elegant movers and do not carry an ounce of spare weight.
