About the Jack Russell Terrier
Jack Russells are small, around 25 to 30cm tall and 5 to 8kg, but they do not know it. The coat is smooth, rough or broken, mostly white with tan or black patches, and it sheds steadily whatever the type. They were bred to go to ground after foxes, and the drive is still there, which is why owners talk about the hole in the lawn, the escaped hamster and the terrier that will not come back until the rabbit has gone. They are clever, quick and fiercely loyal to their people. Many homes just call them 'Jacks' or 'JRTs', and most owners will tell you with a straight face that their dog is small but thinks it is a Rottweiler.
