About the Rottweiler
The Rottweiler is a large, powerful dog, often 40 to 60kg, with a short black coat and distinctive tan markings on the chest, legs and face. They were bred in Germany as droving and cart dogs, and the working head is still there: calm, confident, watchful and very trainable in the right hands. With their own family they are affectionate to the point of being soppy, and many have a habit of sitting on your feet or leaning their full weight against your leg. Owners call them Rotties, and the standard joke is that they are a seventy pound lap dog who has not been told. They rumble when happy, a noise new owners find alarming until they realise it is the Rottie version of a purr.
