About the Shih Tzu
Shih Tzus are a toy breed, roughly 4 to 7kg and about 25cm tall, with a long, flowing double coat that comes in almost any colour and often a mix. Kept long, the coat needs daily brushing and a topknot to keep it out of the eyes; most pet owners go for a shorter 'puppy cut' and the groomer becomes a regular appointment. The slightly upturned face, the short muzzle and the plume of a tail give them a dignified, almost haughty look that falls apart the moment they roll over for a belly rub. They are affectionate, a bit stubborn and happiest indoors near their people. Owners call them 'Shihtzus', 'Tzus' or little lions, and they do tend to behave as if they outrank everyone in the house.
