About the English Springer Spaniel
The English Springer Spaniel is a medium sized gundog, usually 18 to 25 kilos, with a medium length coat in liver and white or black and white, sometimes with tan points. The feathering on the legs and ears gathers mud and burrs, and the ears themselves dangle into every puddle. Springers are energetic, biddable and almost absurdly cheerful, with a need for proper exercise that catches out people expecting a lapdog. They want a job, even if the job is finding a tennis ball in long grass. Owners talk about the Springer bounce, the way the dog pops up above the bracken to check where you are. They are nearly always just called Springers, and owners rarely have only one over a lifetime.
